We're pleased to offer the following services:

Appointments

We see primarily dogs and cats, as we are a small animal practice with 5 veterinarians on staff.  Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet.  Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability.  We schedule most appointments in a 20 or 40 minute block.  We are staffed 6 days a week and equipped to handle urgent care.  An emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians.  Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open.  If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency and we can prepare for your arrival.  When a condition is not life-threatening, but urgent, our veterinarians will work to “squeeze” you in between scheduled appointments.  When you arrive, our receptionist will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

If an emergency happens after hours, please contact MedVet on Douglas Road at (419) 473-0328.

Dental Care

Regular professional dental cleaning is important to maintain the health of your pet.  We use an ultrasonic scalar to clean and polish each tooth.  A

lisenced veterinary technician, under the direction of a doctor, will also apply a plaque sealant to the teeth to help prevent tartar from building up so quickly.  We provide digital dental x-ray and do multiple other special procedures like root canals, crown placement, and  fractured jaw repair.

Wellness Care

Our doctors recommend a check up every six months in order to get good baselines on your pet and catch any disease process early.  This is also a good time to discuss concerns you may have with your pet.  Our well checks consist of examination, immunization, intestinal parasite exam by centrifugation and heartworm testing.  Doctors may also advise an owner on recommended blood work and other diagnostic testing best suited for their pet’s need. The Doctors will take time to discuss client concerns and recommend the best flea and tick prevention, diet and nutritional needs, as well as behavioral and training questions.

Radiology

We offer the most advanced digital X-ray imaging and processing technology.  This allows our doctors to access and share images of your pet immediately after taking the x-ray. If needed, we can also email the images to a specialist.

Surgical Procedures

Our doctors perform a wide array of surgical procedures.  The surgeries consist of everything from routine castrations and spaying, to specialized surgeries like entropion and soft palate surgery.  We have doctors with years of experience in orthopedics that will perform ACL surgeries such as Extracapsular and Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) surgeries. The doctors also perform patella luxation repairs, fracture repairs, femoral head osectomy and amputations. We take every precaution possible with surgical procedures, we recommend pre surgical blood work, and then the doctor will choose what anesthetic is safest for your pet.  We use isoflurane and sevoflurane gas. Our licensed technicians monitor the patients vitals; EKG, heart rate, respiratory rate, pulse ox, temperature, and capillary refill time. They also scrub in for surgeries to assist the doctor in any way needed.

Ultrasound/Echocardiogram

Ultrasound is a non-invasive method of looking at various organs, such as the liver, kidneys, spleen, stomach, and intestinal track, within the body.  It can be used for multiple purposes such as cystocyntesis, which is the process of looking at the bladder and obtaining a urine sample with a sterile syringe. Ultrasound can also be used to do a echocardiogram, which allows the doctor to check the heart function. We use the ultrasound machine on a daily basis to help clients get answers on their pets.

Laboratory Testing

We offer the latest in lab diagnostics for our patients.  Blood analysis is used to asses organ function or to check for diabetes, kidney disease, heart worm, as well as feline HIV and feline leukemia.  We have

fully operational in-house lab machines. Our staff can run a complete blood count in 3 minutes.  All blood work that is sent to the outside lab usually has a 24 hour turn around time and sometimes even 12 hours.  We also offer specialized testing for things like allergies, or fungal infections.  All the blood is drawn by a licensed technician or doctor and is properly handled to get the results we need.  We also offer microscopic testing for fungal and bacterial infections, examining urine, skin scraping, and ear cytology. Assistants and technicians can also use the microscope to check for parasites in blood and fecal matter. They are caring and make the procedure as painless as possible for our patients.  We strive to treat our patients as if they were our own pet.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is another cutting edge service we offer to patients that may have a joint condition or to promote wound healing in a variety of situations. We now have a Companion Therapy Laser.

It is a non-invasive procedure that uses light to improve acute and chronic pain by increasing circulation, reducing inflammation, accelerating tissue repair and improving nerve function. This laser can be used for many conditions such as, arthritis and other pain-associated disorders, wounds, post-operative care, periodontal disease and much more.

Microchip Implantation

Microchip implantation can help a lost pet find their way back home.  We offer the Home Again

microchip.  We also scan any and all animals for a microchip, which have been found, in order to reunite them with there owner if possible. The Home Again microchip is not a tracking device. Each chip is assigned their own number. When a pet who is chipped is scanned, their number will pop up on the scanner and we are able to call the company in order to get the owner's information.

Our doctors are confident that what they recommend is the best medicine for your pet. We offer estimates for any and all procedures, so clients know what will be done and what to expect.  Rebates are available on some products and we try to give our clients the best value along with top notch service.
